How to use the online notepad
- Start typing in the editor. Your note is saved automatically a moment after you stop, and the status under the editor shows "Saved at" with the time.
- Give the note a name in the Note name field if you like. If you leave it empty, the first line of the note is used in your list.
- Press New note to start another one. On a computer your notes are listed on the left; on a phone, pick one from the Open a note menu.
- Use the toolbar to open a .txt file, download the note as .txt, copy all of it, print it or delete it.
- Adjust the view with the text size buttons and the Monospace font switch, and use Find in this note to jump between matches.

Your notes stay on this device
The notepad has no server side at all. Notes are written to your browser's local storage, which belongs to this website on this device only. That makes it private, fast and usable offline once the page has loaded, but it also means a few things are worth knowing:
- Notes are not synced. A note written on your laptop won't appear on your phone, or even in a different browser on the same laptop.
- Clearing site data deletes them. Browser clean-ups, "clear cookies and site data" and some privacy extensions remove local storage along with everything else.
- Private windows forget. In incognito or private mode, notes normally disappear when the window closes. If the browser refuses to save at all, a warning appears above the editor.
- Download what matters. A .txt file is the safest backup and opens in any text editor on any device.
If you keep the notepad open in two tabs, each tab picks up the notes saved by the other, but it's still best to edit a note in one tab at a time.

- Drafts: write an email, post or message without the pressure of a send button, then copy it across when it's ready.
