How to remove extra spaces
- Paste your text into the "Your text" box. "Try an example" loads a sample copied from a PDF, with gaps and broken lines.
- Pick your clean-ups. Four are on by default: single spaces, trimmed lines, tabs turned into spaces, and at most one empty line between paragraphs. Add "Remove all empty lines" or "Remove line breaks" if you need them.
- Check the cleaned text in the result box. A note underneath shows how many characters were removed.
- Copy or download the tidy version as a .txt file.

Fixing text copied from PDFs and emails
PDFs store text line by line, not as flowing paragraphs, so copying from one often gives you a hard line break at the end of every line, plus odd double spaces where the original was justified. Pasted into an email or document, it looks ragged and won't reflow.
Turn on "Remove line breaks" and those breaks become spaces, and "Replace double spaces with one" closes the gaps. Since the join option merges everything into one block, work through a long document one paragraph at a time.
Emails that have been forwarded several times have a similar problem: indentation, trailing spaces and runs of empty lines. The default settings deal with most of that without any changes.
Invisible characters it removes
Not every space is a space. Text from Word, websites and chat apps can contain non-breaking spaces, narrow and thin spaces, the wide ideographic space used in Chinese and Japanese, zero-width spaces and byte order marks. They look like nothing or like normal spaces, yet they make a search for "two words" fail, make two identical-looking lines count as different and upset some code and CSV imports. This tool replaces the visible ones with a plain space and deletes the zero-width ones.
