How to reverse text

  1. Type or paste your text into the "Your text" box, or press "Try an example".
  2. Choose what to reverse: Characters, Word order, Line order or Letters in each word.
  3. See the flipped text in the result box as you type.
  4. Copy it into a message or post, or download it as a .txt file.

Features

  • Four reverse modes on one row, switchable at any time.
  • Emoji-safe: flags, emoji and accented letters are kept whole.
  • Line by line: character and word modes treat each line separately, so multi-line text keeps its shape.
  • Punctuation stays with its word when you reverse word order.
  • Character and line counts for input and result.
  • Copy and .txt download buttons.

The four modes, side by side

Here is the same two-line text, "Good morning, world" and "See you soon", reversed each way:

  • Characters: "dlrow ,gninrom dooG" and "noos uoy eeS". Every line is spelt backwards.
  • Word order: "world morning, Good" and "soon you See". The words swap places but each is still spelt normally.
  • Line order: "See you soon" then "Good morning, world". The lines swap, the text inside does not change.
  • Letters in each word: "dooG ,gninrom dlrow" and "eeS uoy noos". Words stay in place, their letters flip.

Line order is the practical one. It turns a log file, chat export or list of dates upside down so the newest entry comes first, without sorting anything.

Why emoji need special care

Many characters you see on screen are stored as several pieces. A flag is two regional letters, a thumbs-up with a skin tone is two symbols, and an accented é can be a plain e followed by an accent mark. A simple reverse splits these pieces apart, which is why many backwards-text tools produce broken symbols. This tool reverses the text as you see it, so each of these stays in one piece.

Fun and practical uses

  • Puzzles and games: hide an answer in a quiz or a treasure-hunt clue.
  • Social posts and usernames that make readers stop and look twice.
  • Palindromes and word play, such as checking whether a name reads the same backwards.
  • Newest-first lists by reversing line order.
  • Teaching, for spelling practice and reading exercises.

Why use Fileora's reverse text tool

It does all four kinds of reversal in one place, handles emoji properly and shows the result instantly. There is no sign-up, no cost and nothing is sent to a server, so it's fine for private messages too. It works well on a phone, where most backwards-text captions get posted.

For more ways to play with text, style it with the Instagram font generator, put a list in order with sort lines, or switch between capitals and small letters with the case converter.

Frequently asked questions

How do I write text backwards?

Paste or type it into the box with "Characters" selected, which is the default. Each line is reversed letter by letter, so "Hello" becomes "olleH". Your lines stay in the same order, only their contents are flipped.

Is this the same as mirror text?

Not quite. Reversed text puts the letters in the opposite order, but each letter still faces the normal way. True mirror writing, where the letter shapes are flipped, needs special characters or an image editor. For most puzzles and captions, backwards text is what people mean.

Will emoji and accented letters break?

No. The tool reverses whole visible characters rather than the pieces they are stored as, so emoji, flags, skin-tone emoji and letters with combining accents come out intact instead of turning into boxes or question marks.

Can I use it to check a palindrome?

Yes. Type the word or phrase and compare the result with the original. "racecar" reads the same both ways. For phrases like "Never odd or even", ignore the spaces and capitals when you compare, since those move too.

If I reverse the result again, do I get my original text back?

Yes. Every mode is its own undo. Paste the reversed text back in with the same mode selected and you get exactly what you started with.

Does it work with Urdu, Arabic or Hindi?

It will reverse them, but the result is rarely useful. Urdu and Arabic are already written right to left, and their letters change shape depending on their neighbours, so reversed words can look quite different. Hindi vowel signs stay attached to their letters.

Is my text stored?

No. The text is reversed inside your browser, never uploaded and cleared when you leave the page.
