How to convert text to lowercase

Fixing text typed with Caps Lock on
There are two kinds of Caps Lock accident, and each has its own fix:
- Everything is in capitals, like "PLEASE SEND THE REPORT BY FRIDAY." Choose lowercase for all small letters, or Sentence case to get "Please send the report by friday." back, then capitalise names such as Friday yourself.
- The case is flipped, like "pLEASE sEND tHE rEPORT." This happens when Shift is held with Caps Lock on. Choose iNVERSE and every letter swaps round: "Please Send The Report."
Both options sit on the same row as lowercase, so you can try each and keep whichever reads better.
Where lowercase is the better choice
- Cleaning data before comparing it. "Ali@Example.com" and "ali@example.com" reach the same inbox with virtually every email provider, but a spreadsheet treats them as different. Lowercase the list first, then clear out repeats with remove duplicate lines.
- Hashtags and usernames, which many people prefer to write in small letters.
- File names and web addresses, where mixed case causes broken links on servers that treat "Photo.jpg" and "photo.jpg" as different files.
- Code, where HTML tags, CSS properties and many configuration keys are conventionally lowercase.
