Race entries, running apps and training plans rarely agree on units. Here are the standard distances:
- 1 km is 0.6214 mi
- 5 km is 3.1069 mi
- 10 km is 6.2137 mi
- 15 km is 9.3206 mi
- 21.0975 km (half marathon) is 13.1094 mi
- 42.195 km (marathon) is 26.2188 mi
- 50 km (a common ultra distance) is 31.0686 mi
If a training plan asks you to run 20 miles, that is 32.1869 km. Going the other way, a 1-mile time trial covers 1.609 km, just over four laps of a 400 m track.
Road trips and speed limits
Most countries use kilometers on road signs, while the United States and the United Kingdom use miles. Lahore to Islamabad by motorway is roughly 375 km, about 233 miles.
