How to add a watermark to an image
- Add your images. Drag them onto the box above or tap to choose. JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, BMP and GIF files are accepted, and you can add as many as you like.
- Set up your text. With Add text switched on, type your Watermark text, pick a Text colour and use the sliders for Text size, Text opacity and Rotation.
- Choose where it goes. Under Placement, pick One position and tap a square in the Text position grid, or choose Repeat across image to cover the whole photo.
- Add a logo if you want. Switch on Add a logo, choose the file, then set Logo width, Logo opacity and Logo position.
- Press Add watermark (or Watermark with the number of images) and download each file, or use Download all to get a ZIP.
Features
- Text watermark with any colour, size from 1% to 30% of the photo, opacity from 5% to 100% and rotation from -90° to 90°.
- Nine positions: each corner, the middle of each edge and the centre, with a small margin from the edge.
- Repeated pattern that tiles your text over the whole image, so it can't simply be cropped away.
- Logo watermark from a PNG, JPG or WebP file, with its own size, opacity and position. Use it on its own or together with text.
- Live preview of the first image, drawn with exactly the same code that creates the saved files.
- Batch processing with a progress bar and a single ZIP download.
- Same format out as in: JPG stays JPG, PNG stays PNG and WebP stays WebP. AVIF, BMP and GIF images are saved as PNG.
- Before and after file size for every image.
Why use Fileora to watermark photos
A watermark tells people who took a picture and makes it harder to reuse without credit. Photographers mark proofs before a client pays, sellers stamp product shots so other shops can't copy them, and estate agents put their logo on property photos. Doing this by hand in an editor, one picture at a time, is slow.
Fileora watermarks a whole folder in one go, right in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, there is no sign-up and no limit on the number of images, and we never add our own mark to your pictures. The controls are large enough for a phone, so you can watermark photos straight from your camera roll.
For best results, resize large photos first with the image resizer, then shrink the finished files with the image compressor before posting them online. Watermarking a document, contract or report rather than a picture? Use watermark PDF, which stamps text on every page of a PDF.
Choosing a good watermark
A watermark has two jobs that pull in opposite directions: it should be visible enough to identify you, but not so strong that it spoils the photo. A few guidelines help:
- Opacity between 30% and 60% keeps the photo readable while the mark remains obvious. Go higher only for proofs you don't want used at all.
- White text reads well on dark or busy photos; dark text suits bright skies, snow and product shots on white backgrounds. If your batch mixes both, a mid grey or your brand colour is a good compromise.
- Corners such as bottom right are discreet and typical for social media posts, but they are also the easiest to crop off.
- The centre or a repeated pattern protects the picture much better, which is why stock photo previews use them.
- Keep the text short. A name, a web address or a copyright line like © 2026 Your Name is easier to read than a sentence. If text in one position is too wide for a narrow photo, it is automatically scaled down to fit inside the picture.
Things to know
Watermarking creates new images, so information stored inside the original files, such as camera details and location data, is not copied across. That is often a bonus when sharing online. Photos taken sideways on a phone are turned the right way up using the orientation the phone saved, so the watermark lands where the preview shows it.
Animated GIFs are saved as a single still PNG frame. Very large images above 16,384 pixels on the longest side are scaled down to that limit, the largest size browsers handle reliably. Keep your original, unmarked files somewhere safe, as the watermark can't be removed from the saved copies.
