How it works, and the catch
Unicode, the standard for text on every device, includes complete bold and italic alphabets that were created for mathematics. The generator swaps each of your letters for its bold or italic twin. The result is plain text that looks formatted.
The catch is that those letters are different characters from the ones you typed. Screen readers may read them oddly, search may not find them, and some apps count each one as two characters towards a length limit. Use them sparingly: a bold word or heading draws attention, a whole bold post is harder for everyone to read.
