How to use the date difference calculator
To count the time between two dates:
- Choose "Between two dates".
- Pick the start date and the end date. Use the "Today" link above either field to fill in today's date.
- Switch on "Include the end date" if the last day should count.
- Read the result in years, months and days, plus total days, weeks, weekdays, weekend days, total months and hours.
To find a date before or after another:
- Choose "Add or subtract".
- Pick the starting date and choose Add or Subtract.
- Enter the years, months, weeks and days, leaving any you don't need empty.
- Read the result date, with its day of the week and how many days after or before the start date it falls.

A worked example
From 15 January 2026 to 28 September 2026:
- 8 months and 13 days, because 15 January to 15 September is 8 whole months, and 15 to 28 September adds 13 days.
- 256 days in total, which is 36 weeks and 4 days.
- 182 weekdays and 74 weekend days.
- 6,144 hours (256 × 24).
Turn on "Include the end date" and the total becomes 257 days.
To find a deadline 90 days after 28 September 2026, choose "Add or subtract", pick 28 September 2026 and add 90 days. The result is Sunday, 27 December 2026. Because it falls on a weekend, you may want to check whether the deadline moves to the next working day.
Tips for accurate counts
- Decide whether the end date counts. "From 1 to 10 March" usually means 10 days if both dates are included, but only 9 days between them. Contracts, leave rules and visa conditions often say which one they mean, so check the wording.
- Working days need one more step. The weekday figure counts Monday to Friday only. Subtract public holidays in your country, and adjust if your week runs differently, for example with Friday as a day off.
- Months are not all the same length. "3 months" and "90 days" can end on different dates. If a rule is written in months, add months; if it is written in days, add days.
- Hours are based on whole days. The hours figure is total days × 24 and doesn't account for the time of day or clock changes.
